Heavy, continuous rain, moving n. to s. am, gradually faired during afternoon and turned out fair and clear visibility for the initial event of Hull 2017 City of Culture – fireworks display 8-17 to 8-30 pm along with the first night of ‘Made in Hull’ illuminated stories on the face of buildings around ‘old town’. Drove to St. Andrew’s Quay to see the former, even though there by 7-30pm lucky to find a parking space and the traffic and crowds just kept coming. Got a good view. ‘Lit’ from barges in the Estuary just off Humber Dock. Long hold-ups for traffic when leaving.
