Above picture taken 8-30pm today and shows a small group of gulls (mostly common gulls) returning to their Estuary-side roost at dusk. In mid-winter this same return journey can be seen at about 3-30pm. Gulls ‘drift’ home in complete silence, to witness them requires a conscious effort to look up, ‘drift’ being the right word as 

The third and last of the reports from last Friday’s walk. Beside the minor road between Little Weighton and Bentley are two information boards explaining the site of the once Risby House across the intervening dry valley. One board is all text, the other includes illustrative material including an 18th century image of the site

Rowley is a large parish incorporating the townships of Riplingham, Bently , Risby, Hunsley and Little Weighton (although L.W. is an independent civil parish). Yesterday went on a walk from Skidby church (St. Michael’s), west of Hull and Cottingham and in the foothills of the dip slope of the Yorkshire Wolds. From there along a farm track (public right of way) west following the base of a dry valley to the road which passes round the grounds of Rowley Manor

St. Mary’s, Kirkburn (see above) (near Driffield), visited after lunch provided at the village hall, marred by heavy rain but helped by input from Mr. Adamson, church-warden. A fine Norman church, said to be second only in the East Riding to the grand Norman church at Newbald. The chancel although retaining the features of its original Norman
