In a real sense anything standing vertical – pylons, skyscrapers, chimneys (industrial and domestic), statues(?), aerials, trees etc. – falls into this category, it’s just that church towers/spires and rooftop projections come most readily to mind. On the Princes Avenue side of Pearson Park, on a man-made grassy mound, stands a cupola (see above).

The photo above shows the west tower and lead-clad spire of St. Nicholas’ church Kings Lynn, Norfolk.
