River bank walk 5.

Another recent walk, this time along the west bank of the River Ouse at Goole and Hook, but not including Goole church which I have written about before.

The riverside area of Goole is a pleasant housing area where the majority of residents tend their gardens well, looking down on them from the clay bank. On the opposite bank of the River Ouse are fields and a dense linear wildlife area along the clay bank. In the Hook area the rail bridge of the Goole to Hull rail-line (trans-Pennine route) is encountered, see above, the riverside footpath passing under. The seagoing shipping to Goole docks do not travel this far up the River but there will be some river traffic up to Selby, even York, so whether part of this bridge is a swing section I do not know.

Returning by the same way it is worth visiting Goole Cemetery below the bank. A fine and well maintained Victorian and later cemetery where avenues of trees provide shade and where birds and mammals are in evidence. A bit nearer to the starting point is a well maintained pocket park, Riverside Park.
