As I usually do when crossing the Humber Bridge took the dog for walk round park of the Humber Bridge Country Park, one of my favourite areas. Also noticed that the newly-built pub, the (cannot remember) Farm is now open and the car park was full.
How ridiculous and scandalous are/were the plans of the Humber Bridge Board to despoil part of the Country Park to create a hotel complex. With the Country Park surrounded by three large pubs/restaurants, one also a hotel, how monstrous it would be to despoil this beautiful natural green area which is fast becoming an oasis of green environment in an area of country side rapidly being transformed by commercial exploitation.
The image above shows the information board sited near the Humber bank and explaining the history of the big chalk quarry, Humberside’s most historic quarry, which, now returned to its natural state, forms part of the Country Park. The nearby surviving structure is the is the tower of a tower mill which once crushed chalk ahead of it being transported along the Humber by barge. When working the windmill was unusual in the it had five sails.
