First comparatively long distance walk for ages on Wednesday, this to celebrate the long-awaited improvement in the late spring weather. From Humber Bridge Country Park walked the wide footpath next to the rail line and just above the Humber foreshore to North Ferriby. Lots of red valerian just coming into flower, also speedwell, dandelion, buttercup, bugle and others, particularly near to N.F. where the open ground between Estuary and rail-line widens.
Into N.F. to visit station café where met Mr. Horace and Mrs. Dobbs. Cloudless sky and warm. Back to section of foreshore that has to be walked before ‘Redcliff’, a boulder clay low cliff but much more sandy than South Ferriby cliff. Here saw flock of sand martins nesting in a particular strata (see above), as can be seen also at South Ferriby cliff and at points along Holderness coast.
On past Welton Water to Brough Haven and just inland to station. Decided to walk on rather than catch a train back to Hessle. Up to Elloughton by taking paths across golf course and then walked roadside to Welton and beside A63 to Melton high-level pedestrian crossing, over trading estate and along Brickyard Lane to path above Redcliff, and so back to Hessle Country Park.
Dog tired and muddy, me just tired.
